September 24, 2022 Exploration Day: Metal at the Mill

Our September 24th Exploration Day, Metal at the Mill, will focus on the sustainable use of metals and a variety of other materials.

The 6th Annual Catskill Conquest Rally, sponsored by the Historic Automobile Endurance Runs, will rumble through Hanford Mills for an afternoon stop. Come and see these unique historic cars.

The Catskills Folk Connection will feature their exhibit at Hanford Mills. They explore folk artist’s use of a variety of materials to create their works. This year the theme is “Folk Art in Metal,” an exhibit of five artists whose work in metal varies from traditional blacksmithed hardware and hand-hammered copper bowls to modern metal furniture, and from whirlygigs made from Volkswagen Beetle parts to ingenious figures created from tools, kitchen untensils, and old musical instruments.

Exhibit artist John Jackson will provide an interactive demonstration at 2:30pm.

ENJOY a performance by the Stoddard Hollow String band in the afternoon.

Blacksmithing demonstrations will also take place throughout the day.
