Join Hanford Mills as we explore agriculture in the region. This Exploration Day will feature corn grinding with our steel gristmill, as well as other farming-related hands-on activities.
Demonstrations of the water-powered steel attrition mill will take place at approximately 11am and 1pm.
Music from noon-2pm: Cooperstown-based contemporary folk singer-songwriter Will Walker will play in the pavilion. Walker writes poetic and melodic songs of family, memory, love, and resistance.
Other activities throughout the day will include:
• Textile demonstrations: Bring a piece of clothing that is wearable but damaged, and learn some basics of darning and patching with Pamela Cooley. HMM staff will also demonstrate crocheting techniques.
• Waterwheel and machine demonstrations in the mill.
• Learning Lab with hands-on activities for families, including children’s activities related to planting and gardening.
• Try your hand at corn grinding with our hand-operated grinding machines.
• Exhibition with objects related to the history of Delaware County’s dairy industry.
• Intelligent Green Solutions will be on site to talk about solar power for homes and businesses.
Admission to all Exploration Days will be by donation rather than our usual admission rates. Check back here and on our Social Media Channels for more details and information
