Brief Description: Hanford Mills Museum (HMM) operates an authentic water- and steam-powered National Register-listed historic site in East Meredith, NY. The Museum seeks a Collections Technician to work with the senior staff team on a variety of key collections management projects.
Responsibilities: The Collections Technician will be responsible for implementing a 24-month IMLS funded Collections Management Initiative, including working with and supervising a part-time Collections Assistant. Projects will include:
- Conducting a comprehensive collections inventory in fifteen historic structures
- Verifying object data in PastPerfect database; processing and cataloging previously unprocessed objects
- Completing housekeeping activities on objects and collections storage areas, including direct care and monitoring
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least two years of experience in collections care and/or management
- Knowledge of collections management and care practices
- Experience with collections database software (PastPerfect preferred)
- Ability to perform tasks that require moderate physical exertion, stand/walk for long periods on varying surfaces, inside and outside, and in a variety of conditions
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Strong attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in museum studies or related field
Duration: This will be a full-time, 24-month position with benefits. The annual salary is $30,000. Project anticipated to begin February 2016.
